You may have noticed some changes in your grocery bill; I know I have. My ingredient cost has gone up about 20% this year. Ouch! Yep, that means us businesses are feeling the influx of living and expense costs, too! [And not just us bakers.] While I've tried to keep my pricing unchanged, I no longer have the option and will have to update this upcoming year moving forward - Because I refuse to downgrade the quality of my ingredients. That just won't happen. I know this can be frustrating to some; it's frustrating to me! But I hope those taking the time to read this will understand that luxury and custom services are just that - a luxury. Do you NEED cake? No. [Well, maybe I do...but we're not talking about me.] Do we want cake? Absolutely.
Will we die without it? Certainly not! [Okay, again...maybe I would.]
But if you're looking for custom or luxury experience - you're not paying Walmart prices here. That goes with any business, and I think sometimes we forget this with small businesses.
With luxury items, comes luxury pricing. This is especially true on custom too!

Let's get into what these actually mean...
Luxury
The word "luxury" originated from the Latin word luxuria, which means exuberance, excess, or abundance. Although the technical term luxury good is independent of the goods' quality, they are generally considered to be goods at the highest end of the market in terms of quality and price.
Custom
Customization of products means a customer can select features like color, design, functionalities, add-on components or other options to make a more unique item rather than a mass produced one. In this right, it makes the items unique - But also requires more time, money, and often different tools to create, along with classes and experience to execute these skills properly.
As a luxury and custom service, I have to charge appropriately, as do all small businesses.
We are not greedy people. We must charge what our time, ingredients, expenses, knowledge and experience are truly worth to be able to continue what we do and support our families.
Anytime you contact a baker, florist, photographer, caterer, home improvement repair, lawn care worker - Please try to remember that these are people, people with families and bills just like you trying to support their families while doing what they're passionate about.
Be kind. Kindness is lacking so much these days.
I see far too many people in all fields of business deal with absolute rudeness because they get approached by someone looking for a Mercedes grade service on a Honda Civic budget. Luxury is not in everyone's budget, and that's okay! Do you know how many Meijer's cakes I've eaten in my lifetime? I've lost count. They're delicious, and I stand by that. As much as I'd love a Bugatti La Voiture Noire [$13.4 Million car y'all!] I know it's out of my budget. So I can admire, but I wouldn't walk into their showroom and chew them out for their price, call them names and bad mouth them to everyone I know. See what I'm saying? So, I will continue to expand my skills to create the best products I can offer you while making sure I use only the finest quality ingredients I can get my hands on. I want to create not only luxury products, but a luxury experience you can treasure forever. That all being said, I truly appreciate your
support in my business - And I can't wait to create all the beautiful things for you in 2023!
Keep improving, stay kind - and always, always eat cake!
